You can find the cavern nestled within Hocking Hills State Park, near Old Man’s Cave. The Whispering Cave loop, which includes the “swinging” Hemlock Bridge, is just one of the 6 major hiking trails of the Hocking Hills State Park in southeastern Ohio.

There’s a 5-mile loop that starts and ends near the Hocking Hills State Park Visitor Center at Old Man’s Cave. At the QQ waypoint on the trail map, there’s a short 0.2 mile out-and-back trail to experience the cave itself.

Now, if you’re comparing sizes, Whispering Cave is the second-largest cave in Hocking Hills, second only to Ash Cave. The sheer size is impressive, with a vast recess measuring over 300 feet in width. Its high, domed ceiling, peaking at about 105 feet, is a wonder of natural architecture.

Your Journey to Whispering Cave: A 5-Mile “Day Hike”

As mentioned above, the trail to Whispering Cave and the swinging Hemlock Bridge is a 5-mile loop that begins and ends just past the Visitor Center at Old Man’s Cave. It’s well marked with signs, but you can always stop at the Visitor Center for information, guidance, and trail maps. You’ll be following the purple trail, so keep an eye out for purple blazes on the trees.

The Whispering Cave loop trail can fairly easily be completed in about 2 hours, and that should provide plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take plenty of pictures. Last time I hiked the loop, I took 153 pictures and was back at my vehicle within an hour and a half. This makes Whispering Cave a perfect stop for any Day Trip to Hocking Hills.

While you’re exploring the cave, be sure to look for the turtle carved into one of the large rocks. No clues…You’ll have to discover it yourself. ??

Since the end of the Whispering Cave loop trail takes you past Old Man’s Cave Lower Falls, you could easily choose to explore all of Old Man’s Cave as well if you’re feeling up to it.
